Lake Garda may define the landscape around Torbole, but some of the most interesting riding begins when the road turns away from the water.

When we asked the team at Torbole Cycling TRI-SHOP where they would send a rider, they pointed towards a longer journey into the mountains: from Torbole towards Lake Tenno and Passo Ballino, continuing through Fiavè, Passo Durone, Tione, Spiazzo, Passo Daone, Stenico and the Comano area before returning via Sarche.

Their quieter recommendation sits closer to home. Monte Velo, starting from Bolognano, was the climb they singled out as a local alternative worth adding to a ride.

And there was one piece of advice they considered essential around Garda: carry both a front and rear light. Tunnels are a regular part of riding around the lake, so visibility matters even during the day.
